Berlin Diaries -- The Untold Story of the Plot Against Hitler

Now you'd think The History Channel would have eaten this up with a big spoon -- an untold story about killing Hitler.  Slam dunk.  Well they passed but I still think it's a great story.

Berlin diaries -- the Untold Story of the Plot To Kill Hitler

BERLIN DIARIES is a multi-part documentary series about the death of the aristocracy of old Europe as seen through the eyes of a beautiful young White Russian princess trapped in Berlin during World War Two.

This series is based on the diaries she secretly wrote while trying to survive the War.  It is her familiar world that is dying with the events she describes with passion and insight.

Marie Vassiltchikov or Missie was described by friends as, "a noble animal of legend  . . . possessing something free that enables her to soar far above everything and everyone --- a little tragic, a little uncanny."

Missie and her family fled to Germany during the Russian Revolution and became embroiled in the German resistance as the Nazis rose to power.  The "BERLIN DIARIES" is a unique eyewitness account of life in that sector of German society from which the 20th of July Plot -- the conspiracy to kill Hitler -- was born.

"BERLIN DIARIES"  is a skillful weaving of history, memoir, and autobiography that is full of colorful characters.  When she began writing in 1940, Missie was concerned mainly with beaux and parties.   By 1945 she has no more illusions.  She has foraged for food, smelled the decaying flesh of burining corpses buried in the ruins of Berlin and Vienna and lost some of her best friends.

Her developing understanding of the realities of the War provide a rare opportunity to view the Second World War from Berlin and Vienna, not Washington or London.  Her sharp eyed observations and wit make the "BERLIN DIARIES" one of the most remarkable documentary subjects to come out of the War.  It has been called, "the most unnerving combination of calm and grace in utterly hideous conditions."

The story of the "BERLIN DIARIES" will be told by the remaining eyewitnesses whose testimony will be combined with the voices of actors and interwoven with the poignant and powerful filmic records of the Nazis, home movies and still photographs from Missie's family, recreations of events and original motion picture photography taken today.

"BERLIN DIARIES" is an important story that will provide the audience with an understanding of how a country can slip into war and the need, despite the costs, to resist the rise evil.
